The best way to decorate your home is use less stuff. It creates lot of breathing space in your home. All our Indian homes are small roughtly between 800-1500 sqft. We do not fancy for big things in our home. Like having a big green space, a Jacuzzi or even an elaborate master bedroom.  We try to get the best out of the small space we have. These tricks would help you decorate your small home in a better way.

1. Colours of your home
 
Neutral colours are the best to use for a small house. Neutral colours are pleasing and serves as a good background. You don’t have to stick to a particular colour scheme. So, what are these neutral colours? It is a hue that appears to be without colours. Some of the best neutral colours are Ivory, Beige, Taupe, Black, brown, white, gold.

2. Space savers for a small home
 
A small home should have lot of space savers to clear out cluttering. So, you need to create space for everything in your home. Some of the space saving things that you could invest on are,
 
a) Chest of drawers - These drawers have various utility. A strong wooden chest of drawers is ideal for your living room. It would help you organize your important documents, stationery, books & many daily necessities. 3. Hanging the curtains high
 
Curtains give elegance to the rooms. The curtains should be hung high and it should end just an inch above the floor. When I say high, I don’t mean as high as the ceiling. It could be at least 6 inches above the window. It would make the room look bigger.
 
The width of the curtain should also be more than the width of the wall. Extend the rod at least by 4-6 inches on either side. Don't stick to the same colour for all rooms. You can try beautiful colour schemes.
 
4. Don’t invest on home appliances
 
Home appliances occupy a lot of space. I don’t want you to use a mortar for a mixer. Don’t invest on bulky and heavy refrigerators, washing machines. Choose a simple double door or single door refrigerator. Also a small top loaded washing machine for a heavy front loaded one. This would look sleek and do not need much space.
Do not clutter your kitchen with unwanted home appliances. You could buy appliances with multipurpose utility.
 
5. Use mirrors
 
Using big mirrors in windowless walls would work wonders for a small home. A big mirror on the bed room or on kitchen would create an illusion of space. Invest on high quality mirrors or designer/ antique mirrors. It looks aesthetically pleasing on any given day.
 
6. Simple sofa
 
Do not invest on bulky or big sofas/ couches. Instead, go for chic and comfortable retro style sofas. This would provide lot of space for movement.
 
Don’t invest on costly chairs or cheap plastic chairs. It is either unwanted or looks bad. Replace it with dining chairs. Dining chairs are must so try to use it wisely.
 
7. Lighting with wall mounted lights
 
Decorate your home with attractive lamp shades. You don’t have to invest on heavy chandeliers. You can use trendy hanging lights that could be easily installed. It also occupies very little space.
 
8. Book Shelves
 
Fold-able furniture have multiple utility and helps to save space. You could go for simple book shelves with a fold-able table. This would help to avoid unwanted cluttering of things on study table. It also conceals the ever messy bookshelf.
 
9. Kitchen units
 
Designing the kitchen wisely would save a huge space in kitchen. Investing on high quality water proof wooden kitchen or a steel kitchen would be best for a small house. It is the most valuable investment for any house. Sliding drawers, magic tray and shelves with hooks are must for any kitchen.
 
 
Your balcony would look very messy if you do not have one of these. Fold-able cloth dryers and pulleys are easy to use and occupies very little space. Pulleys help in hanging the wet cloths high up. Fold-able cloth drying stands have a great utility on any season.
